    What is the WEC?

    • The Wellness Education Centre (WEC) offers all Western students a safe, comfortable environment to get connected with the wellness resources available at Western and in the London community.
    • We have a 'no wrong door' policy - if you have a question, we'll help you answer it...or we'll find the person who can.

    How can the WEC help you?

    • As a student, searching for the right health and wellness resources to meet your needs can be an overwhelming, confusing, or intimidating experience.
    • At the WEC, we care about providing you with a supportive, personalized way to help you find the resources best suited to your needs.

    Who works at the WEC?

    The WEC is staffed by the Wellness Coordinator and WEC Student Staff.

    The Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator and Western Dietitian Services also have offices in the WEC.

    Wellness Coordinator

    The Wellness Coordinator is Dr. Melanie-Anne Atkins. She supervises WEC Student Staff and works to promote mental health literacy across campus. She is available for bookings to deliver lectures and workshops about mental health and wellness.

    WEC Student Staff

    WEC Student Staff connect students with health and wellness resources. They also design and promote interactive, educational wellness activities to help students become more proactive about their health and well-being.

    Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator

    The Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator is a resource for all Western students who have experienced sexual violence and those individuals supporting survivors of sexual violence. The Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator provides a compassionate and survivor-centric approach, and is able to assist survivors in navigating campus and community supports and explain the reporting options available to them should they wish to formally report an incident of sexual violence.

    The Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator is available to provide training and educational workshops centered around sexual violence. Individuals passionate about sexual violence prevention education are encouraged to contact the Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator to learn more about how to get involved with Western initiatives.

    Western Dietitian Services

    Sara Perlmutter is a Registered Dietitian who rents office space in the WEC for Western Dietitian Services. You can book an appointment with her for nutrition counselling by sending her an email. She considers individual needs and medical conditions.

    More Feet On The Ground

    An educational website on how to recognize, respond and refer students experiencing mental health issues on campus, developed by the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) in partnership with Brock University. When you successfully complete a series of three quizzes on the site, you will receive a certificate for the More Feet on the Ground mental health training.

    Mental Health and Wellbeing for College Students: Achieving and maintaining emotional health during the college years

    A US-based comprehensive guide to help students identify common mental health disorders, their warning signs, how to manage them, and when to seek treatment.
